Toys and Tools for ProgrammersPHPPHP (originally meant Personal Home Page, but now means PHP: Hypertext Processor), first developed by Rasmus Lerdorf in 1995, then subsequently redesigned in 1997 by Andi Gutmans and Zeev Suraski, who formed, Zend, The PHP Company. This very expressive scripting language has grown by leaps and bounds, and enjoyed staggering popularity. The main upshots are that it is widely available on most servers, ISP's and hosting companies; and also, there are now a very comprehensive set of libraries and extensions to perform all kinds of functionality from your PHP scripts, and connect with all kinds of other languages from PHP. Combine that with PHP's relatively shallow learning curve, as well as it's impressive performance profile, and you have a winner!
